Vicarious trauma has a way of building up over time.

Following the coverage of a particularly gruesome homicide trial involving a young girl as the victim, the reporter felt traumatized. After listening to recordings, seeing crime scene photographs, and listening to testimony it caused him to think about the detectives involved in the case. He wondered how police officers were able to do the job for 25 years. The one trial was more than enough for him. Read about his observations.
